How the spring-loaded mechanism works
Inside the slim aluminium cassette sits a tensioned roller spring, similar in principle to a projector screen or a car seatbelt. The mesh is stitched onto this roller so that pulling the handle down draws the net across the opening on guide tracks at the sides; release the handle gently and the spring tension keeps it taut and flat rather than sagging in the middle, which is a common complaint with cheaper roller systems.
When you want the opening completely clear — for airing out a room, moving furniture, or hosting guests on the balcony — the net retracts fully back into the cassette, leaving only a slim 4-6 cm box visible along the top or side of the frame. This is a very different experience from pleated or velcro nets, which remain a fixed vertical panel across the opening even when partially open; a retractable system genuinely lets you have zero net present at all when you choose.
This system is particularly suited to large openings — French doors, sliding balcony doors, and verandah archways — where a permanently fitted mesh panel would visually crowd the opening or interfere with furniture placement close to the door.
